In 2008, a development project of the Wine District in Qiushan Valley, Penglai, Yantai in China was introduced to the founders of Mystic Island Winery. The project aims at gathering passionate investors to turn the valley into a premium wine district. The Hong Kong fouders like the deeper meaning of the project and have invested. They chose a Canadain viticulture expert to pick their land and to design the vineyard. In 2011, the first batch of vines with four red Bordeaux variatals and 1 white Burgandy variatal were planted. They are Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verot and Chardonnay. The constructions of the winery, guest centre and the villas begun in 2015. Since 2019, Mystic has launched their own brand called Yihu . The winery encourages cultural exchanges and have benefited from using both local and overseas experts. Their current foreign viticulture expert and winemaker are from New Zealand. They found the knowledge sharing, exchanges and collaboration led to the success of their wines receiving many international awards. The compnay mission is to grow high-quality grapes and make premium wines. The vineyard and the winery not only secure jobs for farmers, but it also brings young talent to the beautiful cuntryside to work. The winery also strives to promote the region, and introduce sustainable practices.
